BIO: Per the Belmont County History, Juliana YOHE was the mother of John AULT's children, rather than "Susan ____" as indicated by Ref. #1 from Fulton County Cemetery Indexes. In April, 1996, compiler received a photocopy of an article about Adam AULT taken from the 1883 County Atlas. The text follows:
ADAM AULT Adam, the son of John and Julia A. AULT, was born in Stark County, OH, January 21, 1842. He has the somewhat remarkable distinction of belonging to a family of fourteen children, nine sons and five daughters. Of these, he has lost by death one sister, the youngest of the family, and five brothers. His parents, with ten children, came to Indiana in 1849, and settled on a farm four and a half miles west of Rochester, where the father, aged about eighty years, still resides. His mother died in 1879, at the age of sixty-seven years. He remained at home, assisting his father in clearing the farm and tending the crops, until the date of his marriage, which occurred on the 2nd of October, 1862. His chosen companion was Mary J., the daughter of James and Mary KEELY, old citizens, residing at the time in the neighborhood of his father. His wife was born March 19, 1843. To these parents were born three children... Anetta, born July 23, 1863; Oliver S., born September 3, 1866; and Willis, who died in infancy April 4, 1871. The first two years of his married life were on a farm; the next three in Plymouth, Marshall County; from Plymouth he came back to Fulton County and farmed for two more years. About the 1st of March, 1871, he moved to Rochester, where he has ever since resided. Since 1871, he has been engaged in the manufacture and sale of "Ault's Proprietary Medicines", in which business he has been eminently successful. Though beginning on a very small capital, he has increased his business until his medicines are now in demand throughout Northern Indiana and parts of other States. John AULT was born September 28, 1803; came to Fulton County in 1849, where he still lives an old man. Juliana AULT was born September 22, 1811, and deceased January 24, 1877.

BIO: The article about her husband, taken from the Fulton County Atlas, gives Mary's date of birth and marriage date. It also mentions that Mary was the daughter of James and Mary KEELY, "old citizens" residing in the neighborhood of (Adam's) father. The AULT'S three children are named and vital dates are given; the article goes on to say they first lived two years on a farm; the next three in Plymouth, Marshall County, IN. Then they returned to Fulton County and farmed two more years. In March, 1871, they moved to Rochester, and Adam began his manufacture and sale of "Ault's Proprietary Medicines". As of 1883, they were still living there.
The obituary of Mary J. KEELY AULT, taken from old files of the "Rochester Sentinel", 1894, p. 121, reads as follows: Another death after years of patient suffering was that of Mrs. Adam Ault Friday morning. Her disease was heart failure and dropsy and her death had been expected for some time. Mrs. Ault was the daughter of the late James Keely and the mother of two children... Mrs. Nettie Johnson and Oliver Ault. She was a devoted christian, wife and mother and died at age fifty-one. The funeral was one of the largest ever seen in Rochester and it was conducted at Grace church, where deceased was a member, Sunday afternoon, Rev. R.D. Utter, a former pastor officiating.
(Compiler's note) The article on Adam Ault states that the Ault's had a third child who died in infancy. The burial place of Mary J. Keely Ault has not been confirmed; her husband is buried with their daughter Annetta and James Johnson at the IOOF Cemetery in Rochester, IN, but there is no mention of Mary J.'s grave in the "Fulton County Cemetery Inscriptions". BIO: Five years before the marriage of "Nettie" to James F. JOHNSON, the "Rochester Sentinel" Saturday, May 12, 1883, carried the following: Something of a sensation was created in social circles Thursday evening by the arrest of James F. Johnson on a charge of bastardy preferred by Miss Carolina Keely, youngest daughter of James Keely. Johnson is a young man who has spent much of his time in this county for the past two years as an agent for fruit trees...the father accepted $100.00 and gave Johnson an indemnifying bond, securing him against any loss of prosecution of the case... Mr. Samuel Keely, brother of the girl...would not suffer that kind of settlement (and caused the arrest to be made)...

Note attached from Mrs. FOLTZ indicated that "a retired judge and his wife" had collected these obituaries from various sources and were compiling them into book form as of 1996. Mrs. F. did not identify the judge and wife who were doing work. Date on the page copied was "Monday, March 24, 1930."
BIO: The obituary copied by Mrs. FOLTZ reads as follows:
Relatives of this city have received word of the death of Ollie AULT which occurred at his home in Everett, WASHINGTON last Tuesday. Death was due to heart trouble. Mr. AULT was buried at Everett. Mr. AULT was born in this city and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam AULT. He was about 70 years of age. For many years he worked for A.J. BARRETT in his lumber yard in this city leaving Rochester 20 years ago to make his home in WASHINGTON. A sister, Mrs. Nettie JOHNSON, lives at Everett, WASHINGTON. BIO: "ENOS E. WILFERT" "Culver, May 11 - Enos E. Wilfert, 64, died this morning at Woodlawn hospital, Rochester, after three days illness. He was born in Aubbeenaubbee township in Fulton county near his present home three and a half miles southeast of Culver on the Fulton- Marshall County Line road. He spent his youth on a farm in Illinois returning to Indiana in 1921 and has lived in the community since that date. His wife, Anna Mae Ault Wilfert passed in 1948. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Edna Fisher of Rochester and Mrs. Clara Stough of Plymouth; three brothers, Clyde E. of Edwradsville, Mich., Lloyd Earl of Burlington, Wis., and Roy H. of Chicago, Ill. He was a member of the Mt. Hope Methodist church where services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday by Rev. John F. Deal. Burial will be in the Culver cemetery. BIO: "Mrs. Anna Mae WILFERT" "Mrs. Anna Mae Wilfert, aged 32, wife of Enos Wilfert, died early Sunday morning at her home southeast of Culver after an illness of three years. She was born near Culver on Aug. 9, 1916, and spent her entire life in the community. Survivors besides her husband are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Ault, of Argos; four sisters; Mrs. Ermadean Hosimer, of Indianapolis; Mrs. Pauline Russell of Rochester; Mrs. Olive McVey, of Knox; and Mrs. Margaret Hittle of Rochester; one brother, Norman Ault, of Argos and grandparents, Jacob Cromley and Mr. and Mrs. John Ault, of Culver. She was a member of the Mt. Hope Methodist church, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Th Rev. Prentice Douglas, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will be in the Culver cemetery. The body has been removed from the Easterday Funeral Home to her residence 1 mile east of Road 17 on Road 110, where friends may call."
