5 May 1695- Baptism registered in St. Peter's Parish Register, p.367. 1717- He married Anne Terrell, the sister of Joel Terrell, and daughter of William Terrell, and his wife Martha according to Dad's notes.* He was married three times, and engaged to be married again but died suddenly. Major David Lewis was of St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co. 1750- Moved from Hanover County to Albemarle County. 1753- Married his third wife, the widow of Dr. Hart, of Philadelphia, whose maiden name was Mary McGrath, by whom he raised three children. After the death of his third wife, he was engaged to be married a fourth time, but died suddenly before the consumation of the nuptials. He being advanced in life wore a wig, and on retiring at night would hang his wig on the tester over his bed. Being subject to nightmares, he would often awake during the night after dreaming that witches were riding him. On one occasion, he awoke during a frightful dream, sprang from his bed, and during the ensuing struggle, he seized the wig and tore it to pieces, exclaiming " Oh I have caught you at last, have I? You've been riding me a long time." The next morning, he looked at the wig and remarked dolefully, " There's fifteen shillings gone". 21 October 1779 Will recorded in Albemarle county, VA proved at Sept. Court 1779. General Notes for Child William Terrell Lewis
He moved from Hanover County to Albemarle, and was the third settler in that County. That county had been formed from Goochland in 1744, which in turn had been carved from Henrico in 1728. He was among the first men who volunteered their service in Albemarle County to resist the "high-handed measures" of Lord Dunmore's "wicked administration". Before the war, he moved with his family to Surry County, NC in view of the celebrated "Pilot Mountain". When the war began, he applied to Governor Caswell for commissions for all of his sons old enough to bear arms. A Company was organized in April 1775, and his sons served at the Battle of King's Mountain". In 1793 he migrated to Nashville where he died in about 1802.
