Carl was in the service for awhile, and caught pneumonia while standing in the rain during a funeral service. He became partially paralyzed on his right side, both arm and leg, and although he eventually learned to walk again he limped his whole life. He and his wife Emma lived in Florida, and then Tennessee until the early 1980's. They moved to California (Loma Linda) when they were elderly to
