My dad said his parents, Howard H. (John) Lydy and Pearl, moved to Oregon from Ohio in a covered wagon and settled in the Newport or Yaquina Bay area where he was their first born. He Acie Finley (Asa) Lydy was born on a houseboat in the middle of the night during a storm in which his dad had gone for a doctor but didn't make it back before the delivery.  I'm not sure where his other two brothers were born but not long after the youngest one my grandparents divorced and my grandmother married Albert Carey.  They had 9 children of thier own.
      Acie Finley (Asa) Lydy was sold at age 11 to a friend from Calif. as a servent. He grew up around the Santa Monica area.  At age 14, after "departing the company of his employer" he found a paper bag on the beach with $500.00 in it.  An old seasoned beach comber he had befriended had him bury the money and use it to put himself thru vocational school. From there he enlisted in the Army. Due to an injury he was sent to a hospital in Texas and discharged from there while still on crutches.. He came home and met and married my mother who lived across from his mother in Glenwood and they did live happily ever after, after having three onry children...:-))
