General Notes (Husband)
LYNCH, Thomas, signer, was born in the parish of Prince Ge orge, on the North Santee river, S.C., Aug. 5, 1749; son o f Thomas Lynch, delegate. He was educated in England, study ing at Eton and taking his degree at Cambridge university , and pursued a course of law in the Temple, returning to A merica in 1772. He was married to a Miss Shubrick. On the o utbreak of the Revolution he was commissioned captain in th e 1st South Carolina provincials, Col. Christopher Gadsden , serving, 1775-76, and on the death of his [p.71] father i n 1776, he was elected by the Provincial assembly a delegat e to the Continental congress as his successor and he arriv ed in Philadelphia in time to become one of the signers o f the Declaration of Independence. His health, which had be en broken by his services in the army, failed soon after, and he returned t o his plantation in South Carolina in 1777. By advice of hi s physician he undertook the sea voyage to the Island of St . Eustatius, West Indies in 1779, intending to take passag e from there for the south of France. The vessel in which h e sailed from Charleston was never heard from after being s ighted when four days out of port in 1779.

He served as a member of the VirginiaHouse of Delegates from 10/15/1787 to 1/8/1788. He was in thePendleton District of SC in May of 1797 when he sold land inPittsylvania Co., Va. He served as a member of the VirginiaHouse of Delegates from 10/15/1787 to 1/8/1788. He was in thePendleton District of SC in May of 1797 when he sold land inPittsylvania Co., Va. MS.and Micajah Rufus. I have some information on some of these people,but need a great deal more. I am especially hopeful of learning therelationship of Micajah Cochran to Peyton Cochran and the antecedentsof both. Does anyone know who Peyton Cochran's siblings were?
