The Rape of Dervorgila' 1152 invited Anglo-Norman invasion 1169 The Norman Invaders. In the 1160's, the high king, Turlough O'Connor overthrew Dermot. He asked Henry II, the Norman king of England, for help in regaining his kingdom. Henry gave Dermot permission to recruit Norman soldiers Dermot promised to recruit Norman soldiers, and Dermot promised the Normans a share of the land they helped him reconquer. With Norman help, he recovered his kingdom in 1170.

General Notes (Wife)
She was the subject of the colouful episode of Irish History known as the Rape of Dervorgila. The beautiful Dervorgilla was the lover of the passionate Dermot King of Leinster. She married Tiernan O'Rourke (one-eyed). In 1152 Dermot was at war with Tiernan so he attackjed and carried off his wife (not unwillingly). She was taken back a year later by the High King Turlough O'connor. Within a year she was confined to the convent of Clonmacniose and nothing more was heard of her.
