BIO: William and his wife came to INDIANA (Henry Co.) in 1833 when most of the state was raw unsettled land. It was a hard life and the mother and two of the daughters died. After his wife's death, William and children Thomas, William Rowan and Fiza Ann moved farther west to Sullivan County, MO. There he married a second time to Rebecca BARLOW. One child, John Henry, was born to this union. Henry Mock, Sr. died in Rowan County, NC and his estate was probated there om 15 AUG 1840. William was then living in Henry County, IN so he gave brother, Henry, Jr., power of attorney to claim his share of the estate, which was in Davie County. His share: 1 negro boy named Enoch $200.00 Cash 150.00 1 bay horse and saddle
58.00 Cash received for a bank bill-no good 20.00 small bed worth perhaps 10.00 TOTAL $438.00

General Notes for Child Caleb B. Mock
[bobspu.ged]
BIO: Caleb was born and raised in Rowan County, NC. His family owned slaves and when he was a baby he had a negro mammy. In the fall of 1838, his father, William Mock, moved the family to Lewisville, Henry County, IN. In 1840, they moved to Putnam County, west of Indianapolis and here he grew up. He was converted at a camp meeting near New Maysville 06 SEP 1842 and joined the Methodist Church. From then on he devoted his life to religous work and during much of the time was a "circuit rider." On 21 JUN 1852, he was licensed to preach and on 18 JUL 1852, he married Ruth Abb BRADBURY, who shared this life with him. Life was hard for everyone in the pioneer days, but it seemed doubly hard for a preacher's family. Everyone expected them to be dedicated to their work and live on whatever their parishioners could give them. In 1858 his salary was $300.00 a year. Here he had ten preaching places and often had to walk and wade creeks because the ground was too swampy for a horse. The winters were severe there too. He and his horse were fed by the parishioners. During his married life, they had six children and lived in 21 different personages in the 50 years of his ministry. Source: Elizabeth (Ann) Gilchrist-Jun 1998
