General Notes for Child Olive Alpha Martin

Olive appears on the 1910 census with her husband George as living in Silver Creek Township, Harper county, KS.  Her age is given as 23, and born in Kansas. Her father was born in Indiana, her mother in Iowa.  Hard copy in files. Date of birth is from her grave marker in Maple Grove Cemetery, Wichita, KS, confirmed in an obituary later found in the Wichita Eagle (in files). The death certificate of her husband's sister on May 6, 1931, (Carrie H. Downing), shows the informant for the death certificate information as "Mrs. G. W. Downing, 2420 E. 8th Street, Wichita." The records of Maple Grove cemetery Wichita, KS.,  show her buried there. They also carry a notation: "Died in Chicago (?)".  Obituary information from Downing & Lahey Mortuary shows death location of Riverside, IL, and also lists her children.  Cause of death:  Cerebral thrombosis.  Member of College Hill Methodist Church, Wichita,KS.  It further indicates two sisters: Mrs. Ora Little, Emporia, KS, and Mrs. Gene Porter, Argonia, KS. Olive's maiden name had been most elusive for two years.  Finally, on obtaining the Social Security application of daughter Verna did I learn it was "Martin".
