Betsy and William and most of their children are buried in a family cementary near their home, the graves are all marked.

It is tradition that William Wilkins and Betsy Terrell ran away and married when she was in her thirteenth year, and he was twenty-two. Betsy is named in her father's will of 1763.

It is said that they resided in Chatham County, N.C. for awhile, but later moved to S.C. near Spartanburg . William was granted 200 acres of land between Pacelot River and Theckery Creek on December 8, 1774. Other grants were issued to him on later dates.
