History of John Tripp is sketchy at best. Records show t h a t he served in Chatham County Militia in 1772 in Captain Isaiah Hogan' s C o mpany. Mary his wife was still alive in 1805. According to Thomas and Betty Lawley John spent eight ye a r s in the Revolutionary War and received a land grant of 640 acr e s i n what was later Tennessee for his time in service. Trip, John is found in the 1790 census in the Hillsboro u g h District, Orange County, North Carolina.

John and Ann Tripp sold 100 acres of land in Orange Co . , N C along with William Tripp of Pendleton District, SC , t o Th omas Steel of Chatham Co., NC on Nov 9, 1791.

John Tripp of Chatham Co., NC Last Will and Testament w a s d ated on Jan 10, 1805 and proved on Feb, 1805 with hi s w if e Mary was still living at that time.
