"In July of 1869, Captain McFall, who migrated to the new village (PIckens) from Anderson County, deeded his one-half interest in Lot No. 51 to Captain Thornley. The deed stated that Thornley lived on the lot, which fronted Pendleton Street and the western side of the public Square, 'whereon a store is now occupied by McFall and Thornley.' Apparently business was flourishing. By late summer the partners would move into a new, two-story mercantile establishment, with attached dwellings at the rear for McFall, on their adjoining lot (no. 27) at the corner of Main and Pendleton, just west of the courthouse." Mary's father, Joseph McFall, was captured as a child along with his parents and siblings at the Battle of Ruddle's Station in what is now Harrison Co.KY. All of the family except Joseph's mother was taken by the British to Canada and held there for at least a couple of years before being released and returning to KY. Mary's grandmother was later released by the Indians and discovered by a party of George Rogers Clark's expeditionary forces looking for the Indians and any captives. The parents of Joseph McFall and himself returned to farm in Harrison Co. They died there and Joseph married and then took his family to live in Indiana. Samuel Spurgin had come from Canada to an area where his half brothers were living and there met Mary McFall.

CHARLES MCFALLS IS FATALLY SHOT
Tryon, North Carolina, January 11, 1947, Charles Willi amMcFalls67, of Lynn, North Carolina, was shot at his home around 10:30thismorning. He was dead upon arrival of an ambulance from Tryon.
He was a native of Yancey County and had lived in Lynn forseveralyears.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. atMcFarlandsFuneral Home in Tryon with Rev. M. I. Ross officiating.Burial willfollow in the Tryon Cemetery.
