HE MUST BE WORKING AND LIVING ELSWHERE BUT WHERE?????

**NOTE OF 7/4/98
Received packet of material from Mr. Mazur a historian in Washington D.C. He and a group are working on uncataloged Civil War Items in the National Archives.

In this packet are all of John Andrew's muster cards, His muster-in Card from his original enlistment and from his enlistment in the Veterans Volunteers, also included were his muster rolls stating that he was sent to some Northern Hospital (Aug 5, 1862 & Aug 23, 1864). We can now account for his whereabouts from Enlistment on Oct 20, 1861 at Camp Putnam in Marietta, OH to his discharge and reenlistment in The Veteran Volunteers on Dec 31, 1863 at Prospect, TN to his mustering out with the company at Louisville, KY on July 8, 1865.
From these documents and a history of the 63rd OHIO VOL. INF. I have put together a map of where John Andrew Miracle would have been during this time period. It is interesting to see the ground that was covered. This also corresponds with the family history of John being in Sherman's March to the Sea!!

In the Deed books of Wood County, West Virginia we find land transactions made by or in-part by Lucy and John. The first transaction occurs on September 10, 1889 when Lucy leases out 90 acres of land in Walker to Lawrence Bradley for the purpose of drilling for gas and petroleum . The lease was released in ____ according to Release Book 9, page 435 also found in the Wood County Courthouse. Interestingly Clemenza Miracle, who was the wife of John's nephew Lafayette, witnessed the document. (Lafayette was Garrison's son) The next transaction involved a lease between Mary J. Varner "et al" and the South Penn Oil Company. This deed dated November 21, 1896 includes the heirs of Oliver Varner, John's late father-in-law, who are giving South Penn the right to mine and operate wells, on 38 acres, for the production of petroleum and gas. The list of family members required to sign are; Mary J. Varner (widow of Oliver), F. Hornbeck and husband J. Hornbeck. Lucy Miracle and husband J. Miracle, Rachel Baum and husband F. Baum, Thomas Varner and wife Janie Varner, Hiram Varner, V. Varner, L. Varner, M.J. Varner, R.B. Cuthbert, and Hiram Varner guardian of Oliver, Nicholas, and A.B. BIO: Howard and "Dollie" Ault lived on a farm in northern Indiana in the early 1950's, when compiler, her parents and her younger brother spent a week of the traditional Christmas vacation visiting seldom seen relatives in Fulton and Marshall Counties. One of the pleasant memories of this week was the day spent at the Ault's home. where "Dollie" introduced compiler and family to a delicious, white confection called "potato candy". Compiler had naver heard of candy made from mashed potatoes, but it was a treat that would long be remembered and always in connection with "Dollie" Ault.

A photocopy of "Dollie's" obituary has been provided by Margarett Steininger and Wilma Mow Foltz. "DOLLIE" AULT "Mrs. Verda (Dollie) Ault, 79, R.R. 3, Rochester, died at 5:20 p.m. Saturday at Parkview Hospital, Plymouth, where she had been a patient for four days. She was born Sept. 1, 1898 to Perry and Maude Miller and had lived in Fulton County most of her life. She was married Dec. 30, 1935 in Culver to Howard Ault, who preceded in death. She was a member of the Whippoorwill Community Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Dwight (Elizabeth) Kline, Monterey; a son, Ray Ault, R.R. 3, Rochester; 10 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. John Roberts, North Judson, and four brothers, Bernard Miller, Culver; Benjamin McFarland, Argos; Robert McFarland, Culver, and Eugane McFarland, formerly of Culver. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Whippoorwill Community Church, with the Rev. Delbert Ruberg officiating. Friends may call at the Grossman Funeral home, Argos, after 2 p.m. today, until 11 a.m. Tuesday and at th church an hour before services." Compiler's Note: This obituary gives the marriage of Howard and "Dollie" Ault as 1935; other sources say, "1925". Source: Elizabeth (Ann) Gilchrist-Jun 1998-Andersn.GED-11/8/1999
