He lived 1860 in Shelby Twp., Jefferson Co. although the census listed his name as John McLaughlin. But the wife and children clearly are George's family.

George sold 163 acres to William and J.F.Gordon on 17 Dec.  1863, land formerly belonging to William McLaughlin. His infant daughter, Mary Ellen, who died Feb. 1864 is buried at Jefferson Church. He lived 1865 in Moultrie Co., Ill.; 1870 Nevada, Moundville Twp. Vernon Co., Mo. (again census appears to say John George McLaughlin); 1874 in Leeds, Kan.; 1880 Sumner Co., Kan. He moved to Burnett in 1888.

WILLIAM HARRISS NORTHROP

"Is a brother to our late Past Master, Samuel Northrop.  He was born at Wilmington, N.C., July 3rd, 1836.  He was made a Mason in St. John's Lodge after the Civil War.  At the outbreak of the war, being a member of the Wilmington Light Infantry, he went to Fort Caswell where he was for a time engaged in drilling raw recruits.  Later becoming a part of the Third North Carolina Regiment of Infantry and was engaged in the fights around Richmond.  He was appointed Captain in the Quartermaster Department, and in January, 1864, returned to Wilmington to obtain his bond.  Not succeeding in obtaining it at the time, he resigned from the service and was appointed to a position in the Engineer service on the river.  He was witness to the fight at Fort Fisher and the last fight at Bentonsville, N.C.  He was in business after the war with the firm of Northrop and Cumming."
