 HISTORY OF LOWNDES CO

 Kinderlou:  Where the settlement of Kinderlou no w i s w a s f irst known asJones Crossing.  Mr. Francis Jon es s ettl e d the re early in the 19th century and acquire d larg e tra ct s of l and in that section and also owne d a trac t oflan d a t Lake P ark. He cleared a large far m and acqui red man y sla ves, hors es, cattle and other th ings that g o to mak e for a bundance.

 The 1st railroad through the county passed through t h e s e l ands, some ofwhich extended into that part whic h la t e r beca me Brooks County. With therailroad worker s ca m e a yo ung ci vil engineer, George R. Mc Ree, son o f Edwa r d L.Mc R ee an d Elizabeth Young, having been bor n in Doo l y County o n Ja n 31, 1838. He entered the Confe derate Ar my . serving f our y ears, attaining the rank o f captain .  H e returned t o Jone s Crossing where he wa s married t o Miss Rachel Spain , the st ep-daughter of Mr . Jones, an d began f arming in tha t vicinit y. After th e death of Mr . Jones, hi s step-son inh erited th e proper ty from his mo ther and i t then went to hi s son, Fra nk S pain, and his s isters, Mrs George R.Mc Ree an d Mrs Mitc h ell Jones.
