General Notes (Husband)



 Julius died in a dynamite explosion when he was about 36 years old.Heand his son James where working on a road crew, laying a newhighwayduring the summer near Lincolnton, SC.  The steam shovel theywereworking with became impaired.  They removed the part that neededto befixed and took it to the repair shack that was above them (about8 - 10feet) on a small ledge.  The man inside began repairing thepiece and aspark from the metal lit up a wooden chest at the shack.The manalerted Julius and Jack that dynamite was inside the trunk andtoldthem to flee.  The explosion occurred and blew out in thedirectionthat Julius had run.  He was struck throught the back with a2x4 andthrown over the ledge, where he died.  Jack sustained"shrapnel" damagefrom the wood in the explosion.  The other manreceived no damage.

He was a member oftheWestminster Lions Club and served as the secretary/treasurer for15years until his death on 4/15/1980.  He was very close to hisbrotherJack and loved to relate stories of the "mischief they got intoasboys in school".  When the family moved to Westminster, theylivedacross from the O'Kelly family where he met his future wife,Vergie.
