This is my grandfather. I got the details of the infor m a t i on on the family from my mother, Minnie (Moody) Fra nk li n , E dna Moody, and Henritta (Moody) Yeager in Jul y 198 9.

He owned 80 acres in San Jacinto County, Texas, and f a r m e d about 20 acres of it. He worked several othe r j o b s i ncluding some at ARCO, Bryan Ship Yard, and t he ra il ro ad . He enjoyed the railroad most, but was la id of f fr o m the re during the depression. He decided t o sell b etwe e n 75 t o 100 head of cattle and went into t he poult ry bu si ness . This was a financial disaste r and my m othe r rem ember s for the first time the fami ly being fina ncial ly tig ht. P art of the chicken barn s till stands an d is u sed b y his so n, James, to park hi s tractor and a s a stor age ar ea. Henr y Moody complete d the ninth grad e, whic h was th e highest le vel availab le in the communi ty. M y mother s aid that h e was ver y good with math . He ha d a tendenc y to be stubb orn an d arguemenative . He was v ery religiou s (Baptist) a n d liked to argue re ligion an d politics . He often vot e d republican, when f ew Texan s voted repu blican. Joke s a re often made about t he Mood y temper. M y father sai d he h ad difficulty prev enting h im from shoot ing his m ule wit h a shotgun, whe n the mul e refused to d o wha t he wanted . I remember hi m takin g me fishing on c ree ks and huntin g in the wood s for squi rrels. When I w a s in the ninth gra de I spen t aroun d a month with hi m an d worked on his farm . Whil e I wa s in college, h e starte d having periods of d epres sio n and attempte d suicide. R eason for depression w a s lat er diagnosed a s hardening o f arteries. With caref u l cont rol of medic ation, he did ve ry well. Because of t his , h e was in a n ursing home in Hou ston from 1974 unti l hi s d eath in 19 94.

There is a lawsuit dealing with a property dispute invo l v i n g Jake Moody R.K. Hale versus R.G. Moody, et al, no .6 9 0 , Sa n Jacinto Co, April, Oct 1896. This is very di ffi cu l t to r ead. The handwriting is poor and I have no t be e n ab le to m ake out many words. I do have a copy . Georg i a Pug h (Oct 19 90) wrote that Jake and her fathe r, Willi a m Vergi e Turner , were very close. In fact a f ew days b ef ore hi s death h e was at their house.

After the death of his father, Jim Moody was given cu s t o d y of the two minors: Henry Moody and Amos Moody. T h i s d i d not work out good. According to Amy (Moody) Smi t h , th e d aughter of Jim Moody, her father had no har d f ee ling s to wards Henry and Amos, but they did resen t hi s c ontro l o f them. My father said that when I was young, Jim Moody wou l d g i v e me a new nickel any time he saw me. Amy remembers going with her father on many trips to Fo s t o r ia to sell eggs and vegetable. I talked with Amy Ju l y 1 98 9 . They live about 200 yards from the old Jake M oo dy h om e . Her son is restoring the home.

He owned 80 acres in San Jacinto County, Texas, and f a r m e d about 20 acres of it. He worked several othe r j o b s i ncluding some at ARCO, Bryan Ship Yard, and t he ra il ro ad . He enjoyed the railroad most, but was la id of f fr o m the re during the depression. He decided t o sell b etwe e n 75 t o 100 head of cattle and went into t he poult ry bu si ness . This was a financial disaste r and my m othe r rem ember s for the first time the fami ly being fina ncial ly tig ht. P art of the chicken barn s till stands an d is u sed b y his so n, James, to park hi s tractor and a s a stor age ar ea. Henr y Moody complete d the ninth grad e, whic h was th e highest le vel availab le in the communi ty. M y mother s aid that h e was ver y good with math . He ha d a tendenc y to be stubb orn an d arguemenative . He was v ery religiou s (Baptist) a n d liked to argue re ligion an d politics . He often vot e d republican, when f ew Texan s voted repu blican. Joke s a re often made about t he Mood y temper. M y father sai d he h ad difficulty prev enting h im from shoot ing his m ule wit h a shotgun, whe n the mul e refused to d o wha t he wanted . I remember hi m takin g me fishing on c ree ks and huntin g in the wood s for squi rrels. When I w a s in the ninth gra de I spen t aroun d a month with hi m an d worked on his farm . Whil e I wa s in college, h e starte d having periods of d epres sio n and attempte d suicide. R eason for depression w a s lat er diagnosed a s hardening o f arteries. With caref u l cont rol of medic ation, he did ve ry well. Because of t his , h e was in a n ursing home in Hou ston from 1974 unti l hi s d eath in 19 94.

At the time of hi s retiremen t they moved t o Cl eveland , TX and became acti ve in Centra l Baptist Chur c h. He d ied in 1986 of hear t failure. Lik e his brothe r , Henry , he also receive d a ninth grade ed uca- tion , whic h wa s the most availabl e in the communit y at th e time.
