BIO: In an interview with Eva McCARTY, desc. of Bartlett H. O'DELL, Dolly NELSON McELORY and another cousin (via phone call) reported what they could recall of their ancestors, children of Lindsey and Louisa/Eliza (O'DELL) NELSON. Mrs. McELORY descends directly from Henderson L. NELSON via his son, Albert Henderson NELSON. She reported that Henderson L., her grandfather, married "a PETERY" (PETREE?) prior to October, 1882, when his first son, James R. NELSON was born. Per Mrs. McELORY, both Henderson L. and his wife are buried in the Victory Baptist Church Cemetery in Campbell County. Henderson appeared as a one-year-old child in the home of Lindsey and Louisa NELSON on the 1860 enumeration in Campbell County.  He was enumerated there in 1870 and again in 1880, 21 years of age and working as "laborer" on the latter record.

BIO: In her interview with Eva McCARTY, Dolly McELORY reported that Henderson L. NELSON had married (??) "PETERY".  Mrs. McCARTY corrected this surname to PETREE, a name frequently encountered in this eastern TENNESSEE area, and one familiar to Mrs. McCARTY from her own lineage. No other specific data was given about the wife of Henderson NELSON, but there was a statement written in Mrs. McCARTY's summary of the interview that "Both buried in Victory Baptist Church Cemetery."  Compiler was unsure whether this statement referred to Henderson and his wife or to their two sons whose dates of death were included in the summary. The photocopy of the page from the 1900 census enumeration included Henderson NELSON and wife, "Edie C."  This source also gave the month and year of Edie's birth and the fact that she was born in TN.  Only one of the couple's two sons, James, 17 years of age, was enumerated in the household on that census.

BIO: Compiler was not certain whether this child of Henderson L. NELSON was buried at Victory Baptist Church Cemetery or not.  In her summary from the interview with Mrs. McELORY, Eva McCARTY had written under the data on this family "both buried at Victory Baptist Church Cem."  Compiler believes this statement was in reference to Henderson L. and his wife, but it may have referred to his two sons, whose dates of death were included in the data. The Laurel County, KY Historical Society's quarterly, "BRANCHES OF LAUREL," in Feb. 1997, included some Laurel County marriages.  One on the list was  for Willie H. NELSON to Ida Mae TANKERSLEY, "1/03/1911."  William would have been about the right age to be marrying at this time, and many people from Claiborne County, TN migrated to Laurel County. It is possible that this is William Henderson's marriage, but there has been no confirmation. The index lists no data except the names of the bride and groom and the date of marriage (or in some cases, the date the application was filed.)

BIO: In the summary of data from her interview with Dolly NELSON McELORY, Eva McCARTY recorded that James Amos NELSON was buried in the Jones Cemetery, where several members of the Lindsey NELSON family are buried. Compiler consulted the photocopy of page 58 from the index showing the graves in this cemetery, but did not find James Amos NELSON listed on that page.
