  by Rev. John Egelston, Sarah, b. 2 Jan. I746, d. ,at New York,
  dau. of David and Kezia (Davidson) Randall. She m. second, John Smith. .  When he was eight years old, John Newcomb removed to Cornwallis, N. S.,  with his parents. He got into debt by his own or others' contracting and  left the country, supposedly for the United States. By some it has been  thought that he was the Johnú Newcomb of Eastport, Me., but this was not  the case, since John6 of Eastport (No. 98) was born at Gloucester, Mass.,  a descendant from the Newcombs of Cape Cod, Mass. It is more than  probable that he was the John Newcomb who served in the War of the  Revolution
  as private in the Second Regiment, New York Line, 5th Co: Ten Eyke's Co;  enlisted I Jan. 1777,for the war; missing from his company in July,  rejoining
  I3 Nov 1777.
  He may also have been the John Newcomb of New York, marriner, who  married, 10 Nov. 178I, Ann Smith.
  There is no proof, however, that such was the case. '  Children :
