Died as a result of being shot through the head by Deputy Sheriff Oscar Latta.

Judd was a dangerous man, an outlaw who rode with the Dalton's and later with his brother Jim.  It is not known how many crimes he committed because he and his brother used so many aliases.  Judd was known to be very accurate with a gun but, his brother Jim was known to be meaner.  An account of some activities of Judd and his brother Jim is presented in a rather disorganized but otherwise accurate (according to Sue Raguzin) article in True West Magazine, June 1980.

Never married but was courting a widow with a son.  The son had a friend whose father was the local druggist.  Jim got into a scuffle with the two over a bottle of milk. A few days later, Jim was walking past the drugstore when the druggist stopped him.  Stating he had purchased a new gun but didn't know much about it, he asked Jim to take a look at it. Once in the back of the store, the druggist shot him through the heart.

General Notes for Child Amanda M. F. Nite

Amanda is famous in Texas ranching hisotry as the "Queen of Trail".  In April 1871, she went with her husband up the old Chisolm Trail when he took their herd to market.  She is thought to be the first woman to do so and certainly was one of the few ever to make the trip which, in 1871, took 3 months.  She was a Charter Member of the Old Time Trail Drivers association.  Though her husband died only one year after they had settled their new ranch at La Mota, she continued to run the ranch and at the time of her death, covered more than 40, 000 acres.
