Either the c ouple went to Indiana and Mary died or Mary died and John went to Indiana. John married Mart ha Jane Pritchard in Johnson County Indiana in 1845. Martha, a daughter of Curtis and Isabell e (Spears) Pritchard, was born in 1826 and died in 1855 in Tipton County Indiana.

Levi Nutter, a son of Matthew and Elizabeth (Goodwin) Nutter, was born in Harrison Count y VA (WV) in 1796 and died in Ritchie County WV January 30, 1873. He married Magdalene Webb i n Harrison County April 18, 1816. Magdalene was a daughter of John and Elizabeth (Harris) Web b. The Levi Nutter family moved from Harrison County to Ritchie County and squatted for a whi le on Addis Run. They moved to Goose Creek and bought 219 acres of land that became known a s Nutter Farm. The family continued to buy land as the years passed and finally owned more th an 1,000 acres.

Magdalene Webb, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Harris) Webb, was born in 1794, Harri son County, VA. She married Levi Nutter in 1816, Harrison County, VA. He was the son of Mat thew Nutter, Sr., and Elizabeth Goodwin. This family lived on Addis Run Ritchie co, then moved to Goose Creek, where he had purchased 1,000 acres of land in the wilderness. Thr ee of Magdalene and Levi's sons met tragic deaths.

JOHN E. RICHARDS
John E. RICHARDS, 85, of Rt. 1, Greenwood (Long Run Community), WV, died Wednesday, Dec. 25 , 1991, at his home after a brief illness.
He was born in Holbrook, Ritchie County, WV, a son of the late Edgar H. and Lurana Olive GAST ON RICHARDS. He was a self-employed carpenter and had also worked as a construction foreman f or the James F. Allen Company. He attended Piggott Community Church.
Surviving are a close companion, Pauline McCLURE; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Farahlene) McC ULLOUGH of Greenwood and Mrs. Thomas (Wanda) NAY of Columbus, OH; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Edwar d (Marie) HUSK of West Union, WV; four sons, Edgar RICHARDS AND Deward RICHARDS, both of Oxfo rd, WV, Ray RICHARDS of Harrisville, WV, and David RICHARDS of Canton, OH; a sister, Mayme MO RTIN of Clarksburg, WV; 31 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Lora H. NUTTER RICHARDS, in 1970, and a sister, Mae HUS K.
Services were held at Spurgeon Funeral Home, West Union, with Pastor James W. Wright officiat ing. Burial was in the South Fork Cemetery.

SOME SIGHTINGS OF MATTHEW NUTTER IN HARRISON COUNTY, (WEST VIRGINIA)
Harrison County, Book 7, page 133: This Indenture made this 3rd day of May 1807, between Matt hew Nutter, Senior, of the county of Harrison and state of Virginia on the one part and Matth ew Nutter, Junior, of the county and state of the other part. Witnesseth that he the said Mat thew Nutter for the love and affection and consideration of Ten Dollars lawful money of the U nited States, sold unto the said Matthew Nutter, Jnr., a certain tract of land of Greggsby Ru n, a drain of Rooting Creek, it being the same tract conveyed by John Davisson to said Nutter , containing two hundred acres more or less.
Harrison County, Book 5, page 237: This indenture made the 22nd day of February, 1802, betwee n Matthew Nutter and Elizabeth his wife, of the one part, and William Nutter of the same, fo r the consideration of the sum of one hundred dollares to them in hand paid, grant, bargain , sold and confirmed a certain tract or parcel of land on waters of Brushy Fork of Elk Creek , being part of a tract of four hundred acres granted by Patent to Matthew Nutter, containin g 199 acres. This was produced in Court and acknowledged by Matthew Nutter, June Court, 1803 . January Court 1803, acknowledged by Elizabeth Nutter. . Elizabeth together with Matthew Nutter, Jr., and Affey, his wife, also sold land on 12 July 1 817. Elizabeth is named as the widow of Matthew Nutter, deceased.

Elizabeth Nutter, a daughter of Matthew Jr. and Affa (Webb) Nutter, was born in Harriso n County VA (WV) March 15, 1812 and died there June 27, 1882. She married John Ross in Harri son County January 8, 1829. John died in Harrison County April 11, 1835. Elizabeth next married Joseph Lawson in Harrison County. Joseph must have died before 1850, since Eliza beth is shown as a head of a household in the 1850 Harrison County census.

He married Arimatha M avity in Canonsburg Kentucky October 1, 1846. Arimatha, a daughter of Fletcher and Mary (Str eam) Mavity, was born in Greenup County Kentucky October 28, 1830 and died near Fairbury Nebr aska December 15, 1909.
