December, 1997 Dear Cousin I was given your address by Othello Hovard in Mesa AZ. I wanted to share with you the family history I have gathered in my research over the last 25 years.
It was only recently that I found an old photo that was sent to my grandmother by Othello about 1918. It had his name on it, and I discovered where he lived using the internet.
Ermina May Ostrander was born in Colorado in 1884. She was the sister of Hazel Ostrander, my grandmother. For those of you born after 1955, you are third cousins to my children, Sean and Jennifer Kelley, who live in Omaha Nebraska. You have over two dozen third cousins identified here---all the number " 6's ".
My grandmother married Vincent Kelley in Colorado, and moved to Omaha Nebraska in 1920's. All three of her sisters moved to Oregon. Does anyone know the details? Did they move after they married? Or did they marry in Oregon? Did they move the same year?
The Ostranders were from New York. Peter was born in Smithfield, NY in 1815, and he took his family to Jefferson County Wisconsin in 1840's. Two more children were born while he was living in Wisconsin.
By 1870's, they were in Georgetown Colorado. In 1876, Peter's son, Othello Reed Ostrander, married Isabelle Irene Ostrander in Georgetown.
Isabelle's father was Daniel Newcomb Ostrander, and Daniel's father was Joseph Ostrander, and Joseph was a brother of Peter Ostrander.
I have traced the Ostrander family back to 1679, when Pieter Ostrander married Rebecca Traphagen in New Amsterdam. This Dutch family was in North America 90 years before the Revolutionary War started!! Today, there are thousands of descendants all over the country.
Isabelle's father, Daniel Newcomb Ostrander, is descended from William Bradford of Plymouth Colony. Daniel's mother was Irene Newcomb, and Irene descended from Jerusha Bradford.
