Mahlon W. Beach, BEACH IN CANADA, p. 302, says "He wa s a s m all sized man of dark complexion, wore small chin-wiskers, and in dispo s i tion was most peculiar - when meeting, he would not speak first to an y p e rson - relative or other." He met his wife when she fixed his tie for hi m t h e day of the funeral for his brother, Austin Beach, leading the family to sa y " I f he had not lost a brother he would never have gotten a wife." He had no ch i l dren.

He had a roving disposition and moved to Kishwaukee, Illi n o is, in the 1860's, then to California in 1871. He returned to Oxford, Ontar i o , but later lived for a time at Oswego, New York, then again in Californ i a i n 1881, to Manitoba in 1897, and to Alameda, Saskatchewan in 1903 . A f ter his wife died he went to live with son William at Cartwrigh t , M anitoba.
