Frederick was stated to be a general labourer on the docks at the time of his marriage in1921.The cause of his death was cancer of the left lung.He died at the early age of 39 years.He died at 15 ,Thurland rd.Bermondsey London. Frederick was living at 40.Cathay St.Rotherhithe at the time of his wedding to Catherine Young in 1921.

When Catherine was married to Frederick Palmer (elder) she was stated to be living at 3,Gutteridge Court Bermondsey. The witnesses at her wedding were her sister Ellen (Nell) and husband Joseph Mollett. Catherine is buried in the same plot at Lewes cemetery as her son Frederick. His widow Jean has sanctioned this.

Frederick was working at Butlers Wharf London when he joined the Territorial Army in 1939. He was called up for service on September 3rd. when war was declared with Germany. His unit was The Queens Royal Regiment. He was promoted to all ranks to CSM.Was commissioned in Sarafand Palastine.While he was a Sergeant in Libya he was sent to O.C.T.U. for officer training.Fred was commissioned W/LT the 4th.of February 1944.He served Lt.Colonel L.M.Dale as a Platoon Commander with the 9th Battalion The Royal Fusiliers (City of London)Regiment for a period of about 2 years during the Italian campaign 1939/45 war.During this period he was almost continually engaged in close contact with the enemy.(This from a letter of recommendation sent by L M Dale.) This is a poem that Fred wrote about 1959 when the children were small;
"Our moment of pleasure and the children dread , All day long they've been on the go, It seems that children never slow , A full days pleasure they've enjoyed, When its time for bed ,they get annoyed. The usual with Fred,when he's at cricket, The minute you call he's next at the wicket. Susan she cries and doesn't know why Quite some diplomacy is needed with Jim, No matter what's said,his face goes grim, "I don't want a wash "and "stop that you", I think if he swore the air would be blue! Of course if it rains they stay indoors, and the noise they create resembles wild boars. The "tele"is on and I say "to bed", The eyes start to water and faces go red,"Its' the next show on we are dying to see" and "please hurry up ,and get ITV !. Well eventually we win and up they creep, "go quietly" we say because "Jims asleep" Too much noise and Jim wakes up, screams out loud"I want milk in a cup", Dad goes out to shut the shed door, Trips over Fred's bike and sprawls on the floor, In falling he manages to strike his "hooter" on Susans discarded 'blasted' scooter. But on seeing the garden,Dad starts to rave! Scamps dug a hole as big as grave! Just one thing more to finish it up,as Dad walks in ,----- ---- Mum breaks another cup!!.Freds army number was 6089117.2/7 Queens.
