Jacob Peer Born 1789 Shenandoah, VA, died 1881 buried Aug. 5, 188s, Shenandoah, VA. He resid ed in Shenandoah, VA during the census of 1820 thru1870. In the 1850 census he was listed a s a farmer with $1,000 worth of realestate. 1870 he was listed as a blacksmith. He fought i n the War of 1812. He was drafted on Aug. 31, 1814 in Captain Colville's Co., 6th Virginia Militia, at Woodstock , Shenandoah Co., VA. He was discharged on Dec. 6, 1814 at Camp Cross Roads, MD, near Baltim ore. He was credited with 98 days of service. From a book "A Guide to Virginia Militia Units in the War of 1812", by Stuart Lee Butler, th e movements of 6th VA Regiment are described from Aug. to Dec., 1814. Under the direction o f LT. Col. Daniel Coleman the Regiment marched to Richmond on Aug. 25, 1814. It was station ed at Camp Mitchell in Oct. when it was ordered to Baltimore area. The Regiment marched vi a Tappahannock, VA and across the Potomac into MD. The records show that the 6th VA. Militi a was discharged on Dec. 6, 1814. The Shenandoah militia companies served in Norfolk under t he 4th and 5th Regiments. Based on his service in the Militia it appears that Jacob Peer received two land grants an d a pension. A warrant for 40 acres was issured on April 25, 1851. In Jan., 1856, another w arrant for 120 acres, probably at Wardensville, Hardy Co., now West Virginia, was issued. O n Sept. 28, 1871 he was given a pension of $8.00 per month from Feb. 14, 1871. His pension p apers in 1871 gives his home as Cedar Creek, Shenandoah Co., VA. When he applied for land i n 1855 he was a resident of Hardy Co, now West Virginia, probably near Wardensville since tha t is where the warrant is signed. In the 1850 census he was listed a s a farmer with $1,000 worth of realestate. 1870 he was listed as a blacksmith. He fought i n the War of 1812. He was drafted on Aug. 31, 1814 in Captain Colville's Co., 6th Virginia Militia, at Woodstock , Shenandoah Co., VA. He was discharged on Dec. 6, 1814 at Camp Cross Roads, MD, near Baltim ore. He was credited with 98 days of service. From a book "A Guide to Virginia Militia Units in the War of 1812", by Stuart Lee Butler, th e movements of 6th VA Regiment are described from Aug. to Dec., 1814. Under the direction o f LT. Col.
