NATHAN STARR. Of Middletown, Conn. Armorer of Col. Comfor t Sage's regiment, Connecticut; commissioned June20, 1776. Nathan Starr, born April 14, 1755, a noted worker of iron and steel in Middletown, Conn. On the 20th of June, 1776, was commissioned by Gov. Trumbull, of Connecticut, as armorer in the regiment commanded by Col. Comfort Sage, and in 1812 he obtained a contract of the United States government to manufacture ship swords. Also a contract for muskets. He died before completing the last contract, May 25, 1825. He was also to repair and keep the flint locks of the muskets in order for Connecticut. His son-in-law, Henry Carrington, was drafted in the War of 1812. His cousin, James Starr, was one of the Boston tea party. Reference: Hist. of the Starr Family, by Burges Pratt Starr. John's Father was a Professor of Music who taught him  the violin.The newspapers of 1850 Exeter state that he was a violinist of Paris Street and he introduced his "little boy" aged 9 years to a highly respectable audience assembled in Messrs.Smiths Music Room  New North Road.The Newspapers were"Western Luminary",18 June 1850 /"Devonshire Chronicle"July 2nd.1850./ "Trewman's Flying Post"20th June 1850.&"Western Times" 22nd June 1850. Jean Weller a great granddaughter has the copies at 9.Church Lane Lewes.I obtained a copy of Johns personal file from The Royal Society Of Musicians.Also a copy of the list of that Society"s Members.On page 122 you will see that "He performs on the Violin and Piano Forte He has been engaged  at Her Majesty's Theatre,the Royal English Opera & the New Philharmonic Concerts. Is now a Member of Her Majesty's Private Band.& is engaged at The Philharmonic Concerts.
