Deeds, 1:1] "I Robert Barker have given to m y b r other John Barker .... half of my three acres of Mars h .. . . between his upland & the South River .... in Consi derat io n of part of the meadow my brother lost by the agr eemen t wi th John Phillips" dated 19 June 1648, "& this i s in fu ll Sa tisfaction for my part of what was lost as af ores d & my Bro ther is to have the Southerly side of my th ree a crees of me ddow next his own meaddow" The deed was dated 22 June, 1648, signed by Robert Bark e r ( by a mark) and John Barker, and witnessed by John Ald en. "The above written Robert Barker senior appeared & acknow l e ged this Instument (the which my hand is set to a witne ss ). ... This 6t day of Augt 1686 pr me John Alden Assist " R eco rded 6 August, 1686, by Nathaniel Thomas, Clerk.

John Barker, son of Sir Robert and Catherine (Ackworth) B a r ker, direct descendant of Randulph de Calverhall, 120 0 o f E ngland, with his brother Robert, history states, we re a mon g the early adventurers that arrived in Plymouth , Mass . abo ut 1628. Having some means they set out fro m Plymout h Colo ny to make homes for themselves, going b y boat alon g the co ast until they came to the North Rive r (near Cap e Cod) sail ing down this, they reached what i s now part o f Pembroke, M ass. known as Herringbrook.

Here they camped for the winter and the following sprin g g r ound was broken and a house built.

John lived in that part of Plymouth which was set off i n 1 6 37 as Duxbury. He was a brickmason and agreed to tea ch W m . Barden the trade of bricklayer, at the end of hi s tim e gi ving him (Wm) "20 bushels of corn, 2 suits of ap pare l and a n ewe goat's lamb."

In 1638 he moved to Marshfield, Mass. and bought a fer r y a t Jones River, where he covenanted to keep it "at tw o p enc e a person until a bridge is built" in 1643. He w a s a memb er of the Marshfield Military Co. under Lt. Nath an iel Thoma s, in 1648, he had some disagreement with a ne igh bor abou t a boundary line. The Court requested John A lde n and Myle s Standish to "set at rights such difference s a s are betwix t them."

On June 5, 1651 he was made a freeman.
