General Notes (Husband)
[bobspu.ged]
Allen Robinett, who emigrated to America with William Penn's colonists, and his many descendants. Most of the data on the early generations was assembled and written by my late uncle, Allin P. Robinett, 112245-10-1, of Cynwyd, Pennsylvania. A life time of study was required to collect this information. The data from an earlier study, initiated by Captain John D. Robnett, (USN), 13654341, in the 1890s, was used for a large amount of data and for interesting my uncle in the Robinett family. To these two men, we owe our thanks for the information to be presented.
The name, today, has three common spellings; Robinett, Robinette, Robnett. Where possible the correct spelling has been used in the study, however, as the spelling sometimes changes between generations, and even within a single generation, for no known reason, I cannot guarantee that I will always be correct. Early records quite frequently spell the Robinet, which is the true French spelling, though Allen wrote his name Robinett.
The reasons given for the changes in spelling are many. From my own experiences, my name would be spelled correctly more likely if it were spelled Robinette rather than Robinett. One branch of the family said the e was added to make the name look French. In another, the e was added to differentiate one branch from another because of different persuasions, or sympathies, as in the Civil War. The e was accidentally added to a name on a birth certificate, and rather than go through the courts to get the error corrected, the name became Robinette. In early records, particularly the 3rd and 4th generations, the name was often spelled phonetically, Robnet, and from that we probably have the present Robnett spelling in four major branches of the family.
Allen Robinett was neither the first nor the only Robinett to emigrate to America in the 17th century from England. We have records of three members of the Robinett name who were in the Jamestown Colony in Virginia and two who were in Maryland long before Allen came in 1682. However, Allen is the only one who left known descendants in America.
Allen Robinett, the emigrant colonist to Pennsylvania, was born, probably in England about 1632; he died 5 June 1694 in Upper Providence Township, Chester (now Delaware) County, Pennsylvania; married 29 September 1653, London, England, Margaret SYMM, who apparently predeceased him3, both buried, perhaps on their plantation in Upper Providence Township or in nearby Sandy Bank Graveyard (Friends', founded 1690) on "Providence Great Road" now in the Borough of Media, PA. Allen came to America, to Penn's Colony, with his wife, Margaret, and his two younger children, Samuel and Sarah. His two older children, Allen and Susanna, emigrated to Maryland, possibly at an earlier date than Allen Senior. Allen lived in America for not quite twelve short years.

Spu.),p.75 The church was moved stone-by stone to from London to Fulton, Missouri on the Westminster College Campus and dedicated as the Winston Churchill Memorial Library & Chapel about 1965.

General Notes for Child Amos Jeremiah Robinett

m1. Hannah Louise Hunter m2. Frances Roberts
Source: Jerry Wayne Robinette database Mar 1997
Dear Bob, I got the information you had on Ancestry about Amos Jeremiah Robinett. I am related to his first wife, Hannah Louis Hunter. Note: Our family always said it was Louis without the e. This way she signed when her Father died in 1819 without a will. I found a place where I got a copy of the disposal of the property and she had signed it which I took to mean her Mother couldn't write. May be wrong but that was my feeling. We had the names of Amos and a girl Maisie was way it was spelled in our material and said she had died young. Just the other night I found a census in Southhampton Township in Bedford County, Pa for 1850 and it lists Amos Jeremiah age 48 (called Jeremiah) with wife Frances, age 30, Amos 21, Rachel 19, Rebecca 10, Rose 8, Jesse 6 and Mary 2. Now it is not possible that Rachel was daughter of Frances. So is it possible Jeremiah and Hannah Hunter Robinett had another child before she died. Since Jeremiah married Frances in 1839 I would guess the death of Hannah as 1837-8.
Anyway to let you know a bit about the family of Hannah Louis Hunter. Her parents were Joseph and Ann Sterling Hunter. They came from a small village not far from Belfast. Joseph born about 1772 and Ann Sterling about 1774. Cannot be exact on these dates as do not know who either of their parents were but he was 17 and she was 15 when they married in Belfast. I do not have the record of time. There was some trouble with the authorities and they left home under cover of night and went to Belfast where they married. Joseph gave Ann a pin for their marriage which one of my cousins has. I have not seen it or if I did I don't remember it. They wore all there clothing layered on way to Belfast. Took a ship and I would imagine at their age they were indentured but so far have found no record of that. They had a tea cannister full of tea and a copper teakettle. Another one of my cousins has the cannister but imagine that the copper teakettle might have been given to Hannah. The ship had a very rough crossing and at one time some pirates came aboard. The captain had seen them coming and had the passengers pretend to be sick with smallpox or some contagious disease. The pirates left in a hurry without doing any damage to anyone. The eats on the ship were bad but they really did like the captain. Ann Sterling Hunter had long auburn hair. The ship landed somewhere on the Maryland shore probably in the area of Baltimore. They found work at a tavern. Son, Joseph Jr. was born in 1790 according to his record from War of 1812. I don't know when they went to Washington County but they ran a tavern in Clear Spring, Maryland where Joseph Sr. died in December 1819. Found this record in a book on Washington County, Maryland wills. He did not have a will but his name was mentioned in this small booklet I found in Iowa City Historical Library. There was an address to write to about items in the book. After several letters back and forth to know what the price was for it and all I got the copies of the papers. When I first got them could not see how I could tell they were for the right Joseph Hunter. Then after putting them aside for a time I looked at them again and that time saw Hannah Louis Hunter's name and it looked like she had signed it. Knew from the family her name and relationship. From the date of that I figured Hannah must have been born around 1800 either a bit before or a bit after. For thought unless she was of age she couldn't have signed a legal document. The man who purchased most ot the material was Othniel Hosford. Ann Sterling Hunter married him in January 1820. I am not sure where they went after that for have not been able to find them in 1830 Maryland census index or I may not have been able to find one of them to look at. Can't remember for sure at the moment. Anyway Ann Sterling Hunter Hosford is mentioned in the book on the Old Pike as running a tavern and a good one in or near Flintstone, Maryland. She was there in 1840 and the book said she retired after a long season. I do not know if she owned it or not as have no access to land records. In the book her name was mis-spelled as Mrs. Osford and said her son Joseph helped her with it. This would be Joseph Hunter Jr who married Margaret Holman of Washington County,. Maryland prior to her parents going to Washington County, PA. I believe they were married in Pennsylvania and it is possible Ann and her second husband were in Pa too. One of Joseph Jr's two daughters was born in Pa when he had a tavern at Centerville. He evidently did not keep it long for his second daughter two years later was born in Maryland, this was my Great Grandmother Catherine Eliza Hunter Wheeler. Sometime between 1840 and 1850 I believe that both Ann Sterling Hunter Hosford and Joseph Hunter Jr. died. Where I do not know but suspect perhaps in Pennsylvania as in Fayette County, Pennsylvania my great grandmother was married to my Great grandfather Elisha Wheeler in 1849 and in 1850 census her mother Margaret Holman Hunter was living with them. This probably more than you want to know but wanted to fill you in a bit on Hannah. Are you from this branch. Bernice Edmunds Source: Bernice V. Edmunds Mar 1999

General Notes (Husband)
[bobspu.ged]
George remained in Allegany Co, MD when his father migrated west prior to 1800. He was raised by his aunt Ann (13929) and her husband Moses Robinett, 1361. By 1820, George had moved west to Ohio, where he is shown on the 1820 Census Records for 1820 thru 1850 in Lee Twp, Athens Co, OH.
In 1832, Allegany County, MD, Deed Book Q, page 164, George Robinett and his wife Anna, convey their share of the estate of Elijah (father of Anna) to David McElfish, along with the other children of Elijah.

General Notes for Child Moses Robinett
[bobspu.ged]
m1. Susanna Chaney m2. Elizabeth Louisa Kelly
Moses died from injuries sustained in a train accident. His first wife was the daughter of Jerusha Robinett, who was a sister of Anne Robinett, mother of Moses. Both of her parents were cousins of George Robinett, Moses' father.
The better version that I read in a volume authored by James M. Robinett:
Moses had been suffering a lingering illness, so he had been in Washington Court House, staying with a son. It was thought that he had recovered well enough to travel back to his home. Evidently his son put him on the train, Moses started drinking even before the train departed the station, got into a fight with a couple of fellows who threw him off the train, which promptly ran over and killed him. He is therefore buried in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Washington Court House which is not where he lived but is where he died.
