There is a stone in Riverview Cemetery, Union City, MI with Martin's nameand dates. However both Branch County and Calhoun County, MI historiessay he died in Orleans County, NY. James R. did not move to BranchCounty until 1855. Martin and Orrin J. are on opposite sides of anobelisk marker on Rachel's grave in Riverside Cemetery, Union City, MI.The graves are located in Section 6, just off the road to the right ofthe small building in the cemetery. I have checked probate records inboth Niagara and Orleans Co, NY with no luck. Martin was a shoemaker and a farmer. 1830 Census, page 327, Middlesex, Yates, NY 1825 Census of Yates County, NY 1820 Census of Boston Corners, MA Purchased one hundred acres in Middlesex, Yates, NY on 11 Dec 1826, for $500, recorded in book 10, page 544 of Yates Co. in Penn Yann. Sold same January 4, 1831, Book 12, page 440.

General Notes (Wife)
Rachel is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Union City, MI. Her stone is four sided obelisk with Martin and Orrin on the other sides. However,I don't believe either of them are actually buried there because she was still on the Hartland,NY census in 1850 and both died before that. The Vosburgh plot is in Section 6 directly beside the road to the right of the small building in the cemetery.

Deed recorded in Branch Co. Register of Deeds office, Vol. 2, Pg185 Purchased Sec.12, Town 5, Range 7 for $750 in 1855. He and Amanda soldeast 1/2 of this property to Grant in 1898 for $1,000 and the west 1/2 toAnselle Ripley. On March 3, 1919 Grant sold to Frank & Sarah his 1/2 ofthe property for $1 and other valuable considerations. James cleared the land and built a 7 room house and many outbuildings.

He was railway mail-clerk until he became disabled and then was in thejewelry business in Union City. He attended the meetinging which was held inJackson, MI to organize the Republican party and voted for its first candidate,John C. Fremont.
