LIVING
Don was a quick learner. He liked taking things apart and fixing them. Once he took an old type writer of Mrs. Malfitano and tore it apart and he fixed it, infact, it now typed better than it ever did.
He worked at various jobs, like; Geisrectess Florist as a deliveryman. Then he went to work at Progress Importing Company as a deliveryman & clerk (it was an Italian grocery store like Corti Bros). He also worked as a truck driver with his brother-in-law, Frank Malfitano, driving semi- trucks. Then he worked for Shell Oil Company and drove around checking the gas meteors in Vacaville & Rio Vista & Davis areas.
Don & Elizabeth lived in Davis for awhile.
Then his uncle Dom (a V I P with the company) Thompson Diggs Co. (a wholesale house) got him a job there.
When Don Jr. was 5 years old and came down with Polio, Don and his family moved back to Sacramento and remained there.
Don was drafted by the Army but was released due to the problems of his son's polio.
One day when Don and his father-in-law was escavating for Indian relics (before it was outlawed), and to show the humorist that Don was, they cam across an Indian skull and bones. He placed the skull and crossbones by themselves and made a sign saying "I was what you are and someday, you'll be what I am!" and took a picture of it. Then showed everyone "Look what I found!"
Then there was the time he made a movie about Hot Dogs, and showed how he took the family dog and turned him into Hot Dogs for dinner. He was always up to some type of prank and always made it so beleivable. All the time, he was dying with laughter but you never saw him move a muscle until he was telling others about you or worse yet, you were telling them what happened. Always a joker.
Don and his father-in-law, phil Smith, joined the Loyal Order of the Moose and were in the marching band. Don played the Trombone and Phil played the Coronet. Don also played the Violin and the Mandolin.
Don and Elizabeth also were active Folk Dancers and Square Dancers.
They both love to go Camping.

Angelo (nicknamed Mike), left Italy at 7 years of age, with his Uncle Peter Roina. They worked side by side on farms in Argentina, South America. At 17 years old, he returned to Italy. His mother has died and his father had remarried. He didn't like his step mother. He left Italy by ship to New York, U.S.A. to join his sister Rose, who, unknowingly to him had moved to Sacramento, California the week before. He got a job as a Brick Layer (he never laid a brick in his life!). When it came to windows or archways, he'd stay home and say he was "sick" until the job was finished. He moved in with 3 friends and when one of the roommates asked him how to clean or wash the dishes, he told him "just throw them out the window" which is what his roommate did. Mike was only joking but now the 3 were out trying to find dishes to replace theirs.
Mike took a train and traveled to Sacramento to join his Sister in time to celecbrate his next birthday. In Sacramneto he had various job. One was "peddling fresh vegetables" door to door with Pete Cerruti (Our Uncle Pete married Tina, Anna's (Mike's wife) sister, they were brothers-in-law.
Another job he had was with Southern Pacific at the Foundry where he lost his right thumb in an accident.
Then he went to work for Pacific Gas & Electric and remained with them for 35 years, until his death. He was well like by his fellow workers and could of gone real high wih P G & E, but he always refused. He felt he didn't have enough training because he only had 2 years of schooling.
He met & married Anna and settled down and raised 5 children.
He studied and became an American Citizen, Len Iverson (a friend) was his sponsor. The day he became a citizen, was a very important day for him. Mike was very civic consience minded and became a Neighborhood Block Wanderer during WWII in Robla.
Mike use to insist that everyone spoke English in his home. He lived in America and was now an American. So Italian wasn't spoken in his home.
Mike and Anna owned alittle grocery store for awhile, then in later years they owned the "Robla Garden Spot" and sold flowers and plants.
Mike always loved to work in his garden and with his flowers. He also had a grape arbor with several varieties of grapes.
