He had three and possibl y fo u r c hildren by his first wife and five children by h is se co nd w ife He was buried at St. Mary's Church in As h. I n Clu nies ' Ahnentafel Chart, Edward Stoughton's occu patio n wa s give n as "Clerk Priory."
!In TAG 33:105-108, it calls attention to the fact tha t E d w ard Stoughton and Richard Stoughton, the two know n chil dr e n of Thomas Stoughton of Dartford, Kent, Englan d, chan ge d t heir surnames for a time to Stockton and the n back a gai n t o Stoughton. The author also quotes P. R . Planche , wh o stat es: "The Moat Farm, as early as Quee n Elizabeth 's re ign, wa s in the possession of the famil y of Stoughto n. On e of them , Edward Stoughton of Ash, ge nt., whose wil l wa s proved i n 1573, bequeathed to his so n Joel, amongs t othe r things, ' the embroidering of a ves tment set wit h 5,000 p earls or mor e, and 2,000 spangle s and more of si lver-gil t upon the same .'
