Fairfield Daily Ledger, Tues., Aug 23, 1932, Page 2, Col. 3 War Vetern Passes Away. Morello H. Westenhaver, one of the few surviving Civil War Veterns, passed away at the home of his nephew and wife, Mr and Mrs. A. V. Frazey, 300 East Washington Street, at 8 o'clock last night...The body is at the Hoskins funeral home pending word from relatives. Mr. Westenhaver was born in Union County, Ohio, April 19,1845, son of Mr & Mrs Jacob Westenhaver. a few years later his parents came to Perlee where for many years the family home was made. He was the last of a family of six children. Mr. Westenhaver was married to Lucinda Snook, who passed away a number of years ago, also their two children, a boy and a girl have died, He was superintendent of the Sunday School at Perlee for a number of years...Member of Company M, 4th Iowa Cavalry. Had his home with his nephew for the past four years.

The Fairfield Tribune, Aug 29, 1889 and Sept. 11, 1889 Died, in this city, Aug 27, of consumption, Miss Jessie H. Westenhaver; born Mar 2, 1868 near Perlee in this county...Her mother dies eight years ago. Since that time she kept house for her father and brother....
The Fairfield Ledger, July 2, 1890 Page 3, Col.2 Leverett, a sixteen year old son of Hamilton Westenhaver, died in this city yesterday, after an illness of six months for consumption, and his remains were intered this morning. The mother died a few years ago from the same disease and a daughter in this city last fall. NOTE:;On Henry Snook's Lot #68, Aged 29 years 7 months, 7 days. (?) Apparently Alice Snook was the first wife of M.H. Westenhaver and the mother of his children.
The Fairfield Daily Journal, Mon. Nov, 4, 1918, Page 3, Col. 2 Mrs. M.H. Westenhaven, an old resident, died Saturday night. Mrs. M.H.Westenhaver passed away Saturday evening about 10:30 at her home 502 So. third Street Lucinda Westenhaver was the daughter of Henry and Amy Snook, and was born in Richland County, OH, Nov 7, 1836...She came to Iowa in 1842 and Jefferson County has been her home almost continually from that time. Presbyterian Church.....On May 27,1891 she united in marriage to M.H. Westenhaver who with the following brothers and sisters survives her: H.E. Snook of Perlee, Dr, W.H. Snook of Madris,Oregon; and Mrs. O.I. Mofeet of Madris, Oregon.

The Fairfield Journal, Thurs., July 10, 1913, Page 3, Col. 1 Word was received in this city by telegram of the death of Gustavus Snook last night in Gering,Nebr, His death was caused by cancer and he had just been removed from the hospital in Omaha after a vain effort to perform an operation. He was a brother of Mrs. M.H. Westenhaver on S. Third St.

Fairfield Tribune, July 11, 1889, Page 4, Col. 5 Phillip Downing, nee Minnie Snook, daughter of Henry Snook, an old settler of Jefferson County, was born in Fairfield Township April 10, 1854. In 1863 she moved with her parents to Penn Township near Perlee, where she has lived ever since. On 6 Feb. 1872 she was married to Mr. Phillip Downing, a farmer of the same township, who with three children survive her. Died July 7, at 2 o'clock P.M. Funeral Services the following day at Antioch Ch.
