Common Peas Court Records 1822-24 is also the following: "Sept.1882- Andrew Wilkin appointed admr. of est. of Nathan Spurgeon, dec'd.  Sufficient proof submitted to court that  George R., Jeremiah, Elizabeth, Susan & Catherine Spurgeon are bros ans sisters of Nathan Spurgeon, dec'd, who enlisted in the Army of the United States during the late War and who died while in the service of said United States."

Since Joseph is not mentioned,...he was probably also dec'd.
