General Notes for Child Joseph Maxey



He served with his younger brother, Henry, in Schnabel's Missouri Cavalry in the Confederate Army from 1863 to 1865. He was taken prisoner in Missouri on 16 April 1863, three months after his enlistment, but may have secured an early release by claiming (falsely) that his father was a loyal Union sympathizer.
