Joseph Lawton served as a Lieutenant in Colonel Bull's Gra nville County regiment during the Revolution (SC Auditor' s account book, April 1778-February 1780, pages 91 and 93) . He is listed in federal census records for 1790 (Beaufor t District), 1800 (St. Peter's Parish), and 1810 (St. Peter 's Parish). He owned land in St. Peter's Parish, St. Helen a Parish, and Granville County.
