From _Peter SULLENS and Mary CARSON & Two Hundred Years of Descendants_, 1974, by Maude HOFFMAN, p. 69:  "Frances (SULLINS) WILLIAMS writes: 'Because he was opposed to slavery (his father owned slaves), Carson SULLENS left home when he was 20 years old and for this reason he was cut off by his family, whom he never visited and seldom mentioned. He went to Indiana to help in the underground--to assist run-away slaves escape. He settled in Hendricks County near Danville and Winchester.' This explains why there were eleven shares divided after the death of Peter SULLENS, when there were twelve children."
