Schepen of Nieuw Amsterdam from 1650-1661. Captain Lieutenant in Govenor Stuyveesant's Dutch Army. On June 16, 1654 was on Commission to superintend fortifying of city. In 1655 Surveyor General of the Colony. One of the founders of Elizabeth Towne, New Jersey in 1655 along with
  Captain Baker and John Ogden. In 1656 he and Covert Lookermans were appointed guardians over minor
  children of Jacob and Hester Couwenhoven. Orphan Master of the Court. Indian interpreter for Algonquin Indians in 1658.  (Older brothers had attacked the Indians) In 1663 helped lead attack of Indians who had killed settlers and taken captives. Conducting tavern in New Amsterdam in 1644; also kept in Elizabeth Towne. Resided in 1666 at least part time in Elizabeth Towne, New Jersey. Mortgaged property to Governor Carteret on July 12, 1667; property taken by   warrent in 1675. Brewer in Elizabethtown, New Jersey in 1689.
