General Notes (Husband)
"George Wade was one of the earliest citizens of Columbia . He had been born in North Carolina and had moved to Lanca ster County, from which section he had entered the Revoluti on as captain of a company. In Columbia he became owner o f many squares of land, especially in the southwestern sect ion; his home is said to have been near the northwest corne r of Main and Green Streets. He was one of the incorporator s of the Columbia Male academy and of the Presbyterian chur ch and in 1797 one of the town commissioners. His wife, Mar y McDonald, died August 22, 1779. He married again Mrs. Mar tha Center, widow of Nathan Center (died in 1783), a siste r of Col. Thomas Taylor. When he died in 1824 he was buried , it is said, in the Taylor graveyard; his grave is unmarke d." History of Richland County by Edwin L. Green.
