He enlisted 8-Aug-1862 in Co. B, 105th Regiment of Illin o i s Volunteers. He became regimental commissary sergeant, then 1st Lieuten a n t and Quartermaster of U.S. Colored Troops. He was mustered out at Washingt o n , D.C. 7-Jun-1864.
General Notes for Child Watson Beach
He served as Captain of the 10th Michigan Infantry, accom p a nied Sherman's march through Georgia, and was present at the Grand Rev i e w in Washington, D.C. at the end of the Civil War. He became a lawyer, ne w p aper owner/editor, and jurist, serving 38 years as judge of the Sanilac Cou n t y Circuit Court. His portrait hangs in the courtroom to this day.
