William WEBB came to America in 1629 and was a merchant in Norfolk, Virginia. He originally s ettled at the Isle of Pines and then died at Norfolk, Virginia. From him, styled "The Merchan t of Virginia", came the great southern branch of the Webb family. One of his sons, James mov ed to Richmond, Virginia and Lucy Webb was of this branch. His place of residence for a whil e was Smithfield, Isle of Wight, Virginia. He was a renowned shipbuilder and designer.
