The BEACH FAMILY MAGAZINE, Vol. I, No. 4, p. 92 gives h i s d ate of birth as 1775. A biography in the "History of Saratoga County , N e w York", Everts & Ensign, 1878, p. 201, however, says he served in the Revo l u tion, becoming a captain in the Massachusetts militia in 1781, in which c a s e he must have been born much earlier. He settled in Saratoga Springs in 1 8 0 7 where he was the postmaster and a prominent merchant.
