He is thought to have accompanied his broth Silas to Mich i g an in the early 1800's and is probably the same Rufus Beach of Wayne Coun t y , Michigan, who enlisted in the Black Hawk War on 18-Jul-1832. A Rufus B e a ch was likewise appointed Justice of the Peace for Wayne County, Michig a n , in 1835. Note also the Rufus Beach living at Troy, Oakland County, Michiga n , i n the early 1800's who is said to have converted to Mormonism and moved west.

He met his wife when she fixed his tie for hi m t h e day of the funeral for his brother, Austin Beach, leading the family to sa y " I f he had not lost a brother he would never have gotten a wife." At age 28 he moved to East Dumfries, Cana d a , where he married his wife. In 1843 he moved to Michigan. In 1868 he mo v e d to Missouri, but returned to Michigan where he died. This is clearly in error, however, if the date of baptism gi v e n is correct. Note also that in "Corrections and Additions" in Vol. II, N o . 2 , p. 158, it is claimed that Ruth Beach(5) Samuel(4) Josiah(3) Nathaniel ( 2 ) John(1) married a John Edwards. Whether there is confusion here or wheth e r i n fact each Ruth married a different John Edwards is unknown.
