It is lik e l y that the two born in 1745 and 1755 are in fact one and the same, given bo t h a re said to have been born 17-Aug.

His identity as the father of the children below is bas e d o n a legend in the family of his sister, Nancy, to the effect that she had t h r ee relatives who were doctors in the Rochester area, i.e., Drs. Thomas, J o h n and Asahel Beach.

He was an ensign and lieutenant during the Revolution a n d w as later made a major of the Vermont militia. Some claim it was this m a n w ho made the famous "hike" in 1775 to rally the Green Mountain Boys for the r a i d of Fort Ticonderoga, rather than his father, Gershom Beach(4) Ger s h om(3).

There were two or three daughters of this name. The BE A C H FAMILY MAGAZINE, Vol. II, No. 1, p. 116, says the first died 1-Mar-177 1 , a t age 4, but at Vol. III, No. 1, p. 227, the year is given as 1794, which is p r o bably correct. The 1771 date would mean she was born c. 1767, whereas her fa t h er, Samuel Beach(5) Gershom(4) was born in 1752 and it is not likely he w a s a p arent at age 15 or 16. She was the second child of this name. The BEACH FAMIL Y M A GAZINE, Vol. II, No. 1, p. 116, says she was born 28-Feb-1784, but thi s i s t oo soon if, as is likely, the older daughter did not die until 1789. The d a t e of birth above is that given at Vol. III, No. 1, p. 227.
