Per John D.Beam, son of Thurman Irving Beam: The line came from Germany in the early 1700's. Jacob Beam, from the 1700's, was a Luthern bishop that was a rabble rouser and just made it o ut of town ahead of a lynch mob.
At a Jim Beam Distillery gathering in 1994/95, all the Jim Beam's got to split a million buc ks. John D. Beam's brother Jim Beam's share was $900. At this Beam Distilleries gathering , there were Beams from all over, including, Australia, Europe, S. America, and Africa. (Ye s there are some black ones too

Located on McAvoy (Mack Run) in Arcola. Mack run puts off the right across Laurel Creek, abou t six miles below Cowen towards Erbacon, on the Erbacon Road. Cemetery is on the hill behin d the fifth house on the left on Mack Run. Not maintained, in the woods but not much heavy br ush. No road or path going to cemetery, graves are spaced so widely apart that seeing from on e grave to the next is difficult. Appears to be about five graves in total.

Thurman Ivan Beam, 79, who lived near Arlington, (that is in West Virginia) died unexpectedl y at his home at 6:15 Monday morning (that is Feb. 20, 1967).
He was born Nov. 22, 1887, in Clay County, a son of the late George and Margaret Beam. He wa s a retired lumberman, and held membership in the Rock Cave Masonic Lodge, and held the Scott ish Rite. He was a veteran of World War 1.
Mr. Beam is survived by his wife, Mrs. Delcie Woodford Beam; three sons, George Beam, Birc h River; John Beam , Freemont, California, and James Beam of Bellville, Kansas; a daughter , Mrs. Mildred Updike (or Opedyke) of Dundee, N. Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Mae McCauley, of Ella more, and Mrs. Mollie Wright, of Chestnut Ridge, PA., and a brother, Sherman Beam of Copen , 11 grandchildren, and 2 Great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Tomblyn Brothers Funeral Home at French Creek until noon Thur sday. The body will lie in state at the Arlington Baptist Church from 1 until 1 o'clock whe n the Rev. Lloyd Tenney and the Rev. W. W. Browning will conduct final rites. Burial will b e made in the Arlington Cemetery with the Buckhannon Post of the American Legion, of which Mr . Beam was a member, officiating.

Located about three miles outside Cowen on the Erbacon Road, very near the two gas stations t hat sit within sight of each other. Dirt road on left going up a very steep hill can be care fully negotiated by car in dry weather if you are adventurous. Cemetery is mowed but many st ones have either fallen or leaning badly, at least two stones have crumbled into illegibility . Caretaker is Sherry Holcomb 48 Erbacon Road, Cowen WV.

John D. Beam (J.D.Beam) the son of Thurman Ivan Beam met my Father, William Leroy Beam, the y called him" Willie", around 1939 or 40. John D. Beam was in the CCC's in either Newark o r St.Parris, Ohio and Dad came by to see him, John.
J.D. says his father had a newspaper clipping of my father in an ametuer boxing match that m y Father won, "Knocked him out" This happened in the 1930/35 time period. My Dad was in th e army in the Phillipines he believes.

Survivors include a daughter, Jan Kemmerer of Jewell; a stepdaughter, Kathy Every of Wichita ; two brothers, George of Buckhannon and John of Fallon, Nev.; 10 grandchildren; four step-gr andchildren and five great-grandchildren.
