BIOGRAPHY: Biographical Sketch(1908): "Joel Stratton was a soldier in the Revolution at the age of 19, in Capt. Tim Page's Co., Col. James Conver's Regt. The company arrived at Bennington, Vt., Aug. 17.1777, the day after the battle. (His descendants still have a bell which came into his possession that day. It was taken from one of the cows which were being driven over the country by Burgoyne's army to furnish milk for the officers' table. He brought it into the village and it was used to assist in the noise-making in the celebration of the victory.) Joel, when the company was discharged, after several months of good service, remained in Vermont. Sept 25, 1782, he married RhodaBeeman, who was born in Kent, Conn., and was a daughter of Joseph Beeman. He bought his bride on horseback to the log house he had previously built for her.In this log house, more than 130 years ago, they began housekeeping, with "one pewter spoon, and one pewter basin, as the sole contents of their china closet. It was not long before they had a larger house well furnished for that timeand place, and here they lived to a good old age. This farm is still in possession oh his descendants, and they are among the thrifty, prosperous, well-to-dopeople of that section. Mrs. Stratton died Oct 15, 1836 and Mr. Stratton eleven years later, Jan. 7, 1847."

Logic note: Thomas and Thomazine gave birth to their second child on 17 Mar 1717 in England. They gave birth to their third child on 27 Feb 1719 in Pennsylvania. Thus it would appear that they sailed from England to the United states somewhere between those two dates.
