Sources: "Biedler Family History", page 260, family records of Leo Bringhurst, Toquerville, Utah "Genealogy of the Palmer-Trimble Families", page 741: "they removed to Nauvoo, Illinois, but this must have been long after Joseph's death." Little has been discovered about Joseph, probably compounded by his rather young death at the age of 35 years. His death in 1822 precluded the establishment of the Latter Day Saints, thus he likely died with his Quaker faith unchanged.

Name also spelled "Beitler". Sources: "Beidler Family History", page 260. Also shows death date as 15 Feb, same year The Village Record of Chester county had the following notice: "Death notice, Riter - In Hancock county, Illinois, on the 15th of February, of pleuro pneumonia, Elizabeth Beitler, wife of Benjamin Riter, aged seventy three years and one month, formerly of Chester county, PA". General Notes for Child Thomazine Downing

[18401.ged]

Early History of LDS Members, Volume XIV: "Thomazine and George were married by Rev. Moore."

Apparently had one child, as the 1860 census indicates (Household of 3), however, no information on child has been obtained. This could be the "Mary" that is indicated, as a Mary Woodward is buried in St. George, Utah, with Thomazine and George Woodward. Cemetery records also indicate her date of birt as 12 Dec 1814, not the 10th.

Given name also appears as "Thomazin" and "Thomasin", and as "Thomazind" in the cemetery records. I suspect the latter is a typo error considering the adjacen location of "e" and "d" on a keyboard. In husband George Woodward's autobiography ("Our Pioneer Heritage, Vol. 2, p. 618") he refers to her as "Thomazin".

"History of Utah", Vol 4, p. 63, by Orson F. Whitney, gives their marriage date as 1843, not 1842. It also states they "have one child, a daughter -- Mary Woodward".

Early History of the LDS Members, Vol. XIV: "Sarah and Solon were married by Heber C. Kimball."

On November 2, 1997, RD visited the gravesite of Sarah in St. George, Utah, and took the attached photograph. She is buried adjacent to her son, Solon Foster, Jr. When the Mormon exodus took place from Nauvoo, Illinois, to Salt Lake City, Utah, Solon and Sarah accompanied Brigham Young on the initial trip.

Interesting note: Sarah was born into the Quaker faith, and appears in the Quaker records for Pennsylvania births, then converted to the LDS.[Downing.ged]

On November 2, 1997, RD visited the gravesite of Sarah in St. George, Utah, and photographed the marker.. She is buried adjacent to her son, Solon Foster, Jr. Interestingly, I could not locate the grave of her husband, Solon Foster, Sr.
When the 1847 Mormon exodus took place from Nauvoo, Illinois, to Salt Lake City, Utah, Solon and Sarah accompanied Brigham Young on the initial trip. Sarah's photo came from the files of the late Helen Foster Snow. Interesting note: Sarah was born into the Quaker faith, and appears in the Quaker records for Pennsylvania births, then converted to the LDS. It appears that all her siblings except for John Benjamin Downing also became Mormons. Copy of 1841 Marriage certificate in files.
