HORRY, Daniel, Member of Legislative Council and Senator f rom Parish of St. James, Santee.--Born in South Carolina, t he son of Daniel Horry and Sarah Bettison. Admitted to th e Inner Temple, London, England, October 21, 1758, and call ed to English Bar June 29, 1759. Rice planter of St. James' , Santee; Married, first, Judith Serre, December 9,1759· se cond, Harriett Pinckney, sister of Charles Cotesworth Pinck ney, February 15, 1788. Owned "Hampton" plantation. Justic e of peace, Craven County, 1771. Captain under Colonel Will iam Moultrie, 1775; colonel of Craven County Militia, 1776 . Provided supplies, 1780, 1781, 1782. Member of Second Pro vincial Congress, 1775-76. First GeneraI Assembly St. James ', Santee, 1778. Elected to Legislative Council September 1 9, 1776. S.C. Senate, St. James', Santee 1778-80. Commissio ner of roads. Amerced 12 per cent of his estate in 1782 fo r sympathizing with Tories. Commissioner for building new p arish church; vestryman, 1751. Member of last board of chur ch commissioners. Died November 12, 1785, at his plantation ; buried in Echaw Churchyard, St· James', Santee.
