Burke, in his "Dictionary of Peerages and Baronage, " g i v e s the followingdescription of th e Coat-of-Arms o f Wi ll i a m Earl Bullwer, Esq., of WoodDalling; as "quart ere d wi t h th e Arms o f Lytton. Gules, on a chevronArgen t, b etwe e n thre e eagles, regardant, Or. as many cinquef oi l s Sabl e; Crest-- an heraldic Tigers head, erased Ermi ne , crined a n d armed, O r."

The identity of the first of the name of Bullard in Am e r i c a has beenestablished beyond a re asonable doubt, t hr ou g h t he research of the lateJ. Gardner Bartlett, a n emi ne n t gene alogist , and an expert authority onthe E nglis h an ce stry o f many early New England settlers.

The names of these four sons of widow Grace Bullard di s a p p ear from theEnglish records at th e time they firs t a pp e a r in New England, whichforms a most important li nk i n t h e c hain of co nnecting proof of theirEnglish ho me. T ha t th ey c ame to America about 1635, when most o f th epl ant ers o f th e towns of Dedham and Watertown, Ma ssachuset ts , arrive d,ha s been definitel y established b y historia n s and genea logis ts, andwhile no record has b een foun d t o determin e t he dat e of their sailing,it ha s been sh ow n that WILLIAM BU LLARD , while on his voyag e to N ewEng lan d, became a witnes s to t he nuncupative w ill of Jame s Harv ie ofGamscoln, Esse x, Eng l and, who di ed on ship b oard, l eaving property intr ust fo r his brot her at Wether sfield , in En gland, and desi red Wil liamBu llard "to tak e the wh ole business upon himsel f." 1655. This year Edmund Farrington built his mill o n W a t e r Hill. A pond was dugby hand, and the wat er bro ugh t f r o m the old brook, by a little canalabout hal f a mil e i n le ng th. This mill was f or many years the p ropertyo f Be njami n P hillips, and in 1836 was purchase d by Henr y A. Br ee d , whod ug out a new pond of more tha n an acre , for a r ese rvoir. [N ehemiah Berrypurchased t h e propert y a numbe r o f years sinc e, and continues th e millin succ essful ope rati on. It lon g a go, however, c eased to b e a meregrist-m ill . But Mr. Far rington did no t build hi s mill here . Hi s wa s atide mill, a nd stood w here Chase' s was afterward b uilt.
