William John Stanley was a shoemaker, first in Whitby, then in Lindsay Ont. He had 4 sons & 1 dghtr. 1 son Bill moved to Eldon probably in the late 1880's where he took up farming just north of Logans Hill. Bill married Martha Uncles and had 3 children 1)Bill who married Mildred Howard, 2) Sam married Jessie Wallace 3) Ethel married Alex McRae. William John Stanley's family include three other boys, Henry (Jack) who married Mabel Shier, Robert (Bob) who married Bertha Hurren and Sam and 1 dghtr. All information from Eldon Connections p.179

MR - 932-144 reg# 020027 (1909) - Robert's mother is listed as Mary Ann. Robert came from Bolsover, Ont. in 1902. He filed his homestead in Solheim District SE 10-2-11. After proving his homestead, in 1907 he bought his brother John's homestead and John returned to Carnduff. Taxes on his quarter section in 1904-05 was four dollars by 1907 taxes on his half section were only four dollars and eighty cents a year. Bob Stanley baked bread and made many a meal for his bachelor friends in those early days, his past experience cooking in railroad camps in earlier days was a big help. In 1909 he took a trip back home to Bolsover and returned with his bride, the former Bertha Hurren. He farmed with horses and in 1912 had the misfortune of his horses getting Glanders, and sixteen horses and colts died or were destroyed a great loss and discouragement in those times. For a number of years Robert Stanley was weed inspecter for Cambria municipality, first with horse and buggy and later a Model T Ford. Both Robert and Bertha were staunch supporters of advancement in the district, telephone and school were built. Church services were held first in homes then in Solheim School. Mrs Stanley died in 1926 . The family remained on the farm till Robert's death in 1937, after which they moved to Melita, Man.. The Stanley's farmed in the Glencoe District. In later years Mabel had a dress shop in Carnduff. It was known as Stanley's Style Shop. Jack and Mabel had 6 children. 1) Ada Eleanor 2) Morton Clifford (see Individual Story). 3) Helen Annetta 4) Vera Ethel 5) Keith Monroe 6)Edna Margarita. See P 91 & 92 (55) & (56) of "a Family From Court Mattress". Jack grew up on the Family farm at Bolsover Ont., in 1904 he came to Carnduff, later home steading in the Estevan Sask district south of the present town of Torquay. In July 1907 he was granted a patent to the title of his farm NE 10-2-11 w2nd. At that time Estevan was the nearest town, some twenty miles away. There were long cold trips into Estevan for supplies and to haul grain to market. In 1908 he sold his farm to his brother Robert and moved to Carnduff, Sask.. At Carnduff he purchased a farm in the Goshen District and in Aug 1908 married Mabel Beatrice Shier. Later in 1916 he moved his family to Glencoe District southeast of Carnduff.
