W hile a prince, he was given the command o f t he nava l ba se n ear Memphis. In his first year as kin g th e Asiati cs re belle d, but to no avail. He spent hi s secon d year i n Syri a overc oming several uprisings. Hi s victor ious retu rn to E gypt wa s indicated by the capti ve office rs that we re hangi ng upsid e down on the prow o f his ship . The sam e were behe aded i n a ceremony by Ame nhotep's ow n hand. Hi s son, Thutm ose I V assumed the thr one when Ame nhotep die d at the age o f 45 .
