Since assuming the duties of this office, hehasproven himself a very able, efficient and conscientiouspublicofficial. He is prominently active in fraternal affairs, aswell asin several patriotic organizations and, indeed, in everyrespectrepresents the highest type of useful, vigorous andpublic-spiritedcitizenship. Aaron Jerry Boggs, Jr., was born at Calhoun, Pickens county,February4, 1901, a son of Aaron John and Sallie (Looper) Boggs. Hisfather,who was born in Oconee County, near the Old Stone Church,served forsixteen years as clerk of the court at Pickens, but is nowretired.Mr. Boggs' mother likewise was born in South Carolina, being anativeof Pickens County and a daughter of Jere and Martha (Mauldin)Looper.Mr. Boggs' paternal grandparents were Aaron and Elmyra Boggs.Agreat-great-grandson of Aaron Boggs, who served as a sergeantunderGeneral Marion in the Revolutionary War, Mr. Boggs, as theresult ofhis descent from this Revolutionary soldier, is a member ofthe Sonsof the American Revolution. One of a family of five children,of whomfour are now living, Mr. Boggs received his early education inthepublic grammar and high schools at Pickens, being graduated fromthePickens High School in 1916. He then attended Clemson Collegeforthree years. At the end of this period he entered businessandduring 1919-20 served as a clerk and bookkeeper for thePickensHardware and Grocery Company. He then became identified withtheKeowee Bank at Pickens, of which he was assistant cashier forthreeyears and cashier for one year. In 1924 he became an engineerin theSouth Carolina State Highway Department, in which capacityhecontinued to serve for the next two years. After that he spenttwoyears with the Newell Contracting Company of Birmingham, Alabama,first for one year with this company's Greenville office andthenanother year at the home office in Birmingham. Returning to theStatehighway department in 1928, he remained with it until thefollowingyear. In the meantime, in the fall of 1928, he had beenelectedcounty auditor of Pickens County, for a term of four years. Hetookoffice in 1929 and since then has continued to serve, with officesinthe County at Pickens. In politics he is a supporter of theDemocraticparty. Mr. Boggs is a veteran of War. At the age ofsixteen heenlisted in States Regular Army in June, 1917, and wastransferred toClemson College, where he was stationed during theremainder of thewar, receiving his honorable discharge from activemilitary service inJanuary, 1919. He has served as Commander of PostNo. 11, PickensCounty, American Legion and is also a member of theSociety of Fortyand Eight. As has already been stated, Mr. Boggs is amember of theSons of the American Revolution. He also belongs toKeowee Lodge, No.79, Ancient Free Masons, of Pickens; Pickens Chapter,Royal ArchMasons; Pickens Council, Royal and Select Masters; theImproved Orderof Red Men; and the Woodmen of the World. His religiousaffiliationsare with the Baptist Church. Mr. Boggs married, in July,1919,Rosamond Lynn, of Washington, District of Columbia, a daughterofAlbert C and Evelyn (Meacham)Lynn.
